The best way to successfully pass an exam is by studying and being prepared. Many exam takers think that it is too time-consuming and stressful to study and prepare, but it doesn't have to be. Here are 5 essential tips to successfully pass an exam without getting stressed.
1. Plan Ahead
Give yourself enough time to study by planning ahead. Make a schedule. Count the number of days left before the much awaited examination day. Write it down in a planner or in a calendar or use a graphic organizer.
Think of how many subjects you need to study and the lesson coverage or topics discussed. Distribute the lessons you need to study using time table and set the number of hours and days accordingly.
2. Consider the Time and Location
Make sure you study in your preferred time and location. Some likes to study before going to bed. Others study when they wake up. There are those who likes to study in complete silence like alone in the room in an organized table or in the library. While others choose to spend time studying in a group of friends in the park or in the lobby. Others like to study and follow a routine, while some likes variation in time and place.
Whichever your preferred time and location, make sure you know what time and location helps boost your mood for studying where you can understand better your notes and remember most of them.
3. Know Your Study Style
Every student is unique. No one is the same, and so everyone learn differently. When I was in Grade 4, I realized that it helps me learn better if I write my own notes. So, I manually write the discussion and topics. I learned though that it was tedious and not very efficient when one of the teachers told us that we will be having a quiz after her discussion and gave us only a few minutes. I revised my strategy. I do not only copy and use the keywords in the discussion but I also used arrows and boxes to understand the relatedness of concepts and ideas discussed. Later did I know it was called flowcharting and graphic organizer.
In High School, one of the subject teachers always have had a quiz. As a strategy, I study after lunch in a swing under the shade of the tree. I always had good scores.
Discover your own learning or study style. It would boost your understanding of the lesson.
4. Review Notes and Look for Related Information
Most importantly, review your notes. As a student, it is your responsibility to keep notes of the discussion. If you do not have one, look for references or other learning resources.
One good strategy is to keep your own learning portfolio aside from your notebook. Keep all your quiz results, corrected activity sheets and answer sheets in one. It is best if you put a date on it so that you can track the flow of the lesson. Use it as your review notes.
Maximize other resources such as Self-Learning Modules (SLMs), Books, Flyers, Brochures, Screenshots, and Infographics of the topics discussed and other resources you can find online.
Create your own summary of the topics by using a graphic organizer. It would be useful if you know the Table of Specifications (TOS) or Syllabus of the exam or in layman's term, coverage of the exam and use it as your basis on the topics to study.
5. Keep Calm
It would be impossible not to feel any pressure at all! But you can choose to keep calm when you have done your best. It is important that you take the exam with clear mind and healthy body.
To prepare better, know the time of the exam, place of the exam, and required materials to bring. Read the guidelines if there are any. Go to the examination venue prepared by eating your meals and taking your vitamins for the day.
This general tips could surely guide you to successfully pass the exam. Take the exam with confidence and believe in your self. God will surely enlighten you when you have done your part.
